A deputy with the Lake County (FL) Sheriff’s Office is thanking a stranger for going the extra mile to make sure law enforcement officials are safe.
Dep. David Causey was filling up the tank of his patrol SUV Saturday when he noticed a man acting strangely nearby.
At first, Causey thought the man might be a threat, but then he realized the man was acting as his guardian.
According to a Facebook post by Causey, the man turned to him and said, “Thank you sir for what you do. I have your back.”
The man was later identified as Casey DeLoach, a 73-year-old Army Veteran.
DeLoach told HotTopics he has been standing guard for law enforcement officers at gas stations for years, after a Texas deputy was shot and killed in 2015 while pumping gas.
