Video from the scene shows the deputy grabbing the suspect as the suspect appears to attempt to escape. OCSO says the man resisted being detained and fought with the deputy.
The deputy and the suspect struggled and ended up on the ground. OCSO says the man punched the deputy 10 times in the head while he was on the ground.
“During the fight, two objects, later determined to be firearms, were flung from the area and were in proximity to the fight. The fight lasted for one minute and sixteen seconds, and when the suspect got off the deputy, he ran toward the firearms. That’s when the deputy was able to get to his feet and fire his service weapon, striking the man,” OCSO reports in a

press release.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he reportedly remains in stable condition.
The deputy reportedly suffered head injuries but is “doing well,” according to OCSO.
