Music icon David Bowie who died Sunday at age 69 called New York City home so when musicians produced a tribute concert called "Concert for New York" to honor the police and firefighters who responded to 9/11 and raise money for 9/11 charities he was eager to perform.

Music icon David Bowie who died Sunday at age 69 called New York City home so when musicians produced a tribute concert called "Concert for New York" to honor the police and firefighters who responded to 9/11 and raise money for 9/11 charities he was eager to perform.

Bowie opened the concert with a stark version of Paul Simon's "America" played on a toy keyboard. Then he performed his song "Heroes" with a full band.

The concert was broadcast live on VH1 and raised more than $35 million.
