Dashcam footage released this week by the Police Foundation shows that Riverside, Calif., officers Michael Crain and Daniel Tachias were ambushed by Christopher Dorner before they knew the former LAPD officer had attacked two LAPD officers some 20 minutes earlier in nearby Corona.
A dashcam video--released this week by the Police Foundation--shows the Riverside officers pull up to a stoplight. Dorner's truck is in the opposite lane. After the truck rolls through the intersection, the officers are hit with rifle fire. Crain is mortally wounded. Tachias, though conscious is so badly hit that he cannot move.
Moments later a cab driver stops to check on the officers and calls in the "officers down" alert.
After the officers down call, dispatch issues a warning to all Riverside officers that two LAPD officers had been shot at in nearby Corona.
Crain died at a nearby hospital. Tachias survived the attack.
The Police Foundation issued a report this week that discusses the Corona ambush as an example of poor interagency communication during the incident.
