Video: California K-9 Officer Shoots, Kills Suspect
Law enforcement authorities are investigating an early morning pursuit and suspect search in Oakland that led to an Alameda County (Calif.) sheriff's K-9 deputy fatally shooting the suspect.

An early morning pursuit and suspect search in Oakland led to an Alameda County sheriff's K-9 deputy fatally shooting the suspect.
Oakland Police Department spokesperson Johnna Watson told KTVU that the incident began shortly before 4 a.m. when officers driving near 55th and Fairfax avenues spotted a vehicle that was connected to a violent July 12 home invasion robbery.
Police officials said the driver of the wanted silver 2001 Volvo C70 failed to stop, inciting a police pursuit.
The officers lost the vehicle in the area of 55th and International, but located it again at 105th and Acalanes. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled into a neighboring yard, which led to a search by Oakland police officers and Alameda County sheriff's deputies.
"We were conducting a systematic search of yards and that's when k9 did locate the suspect," said Watson.
During the search, an Alameda County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit deputy found the suspect at around 6 a.m. During the encounter with the suspect, the deputy shot the man. The suspect was fatally injured by the gunshot.
