Video: Arizona Volunteer Deputy Shot, Suspect Arrested
The Yavapai County (Ariz.) Sheriff's Office says one of its volunteers was shot in the hip Thursday night near Ash Fork.

The Yavapai County (Ariz.) Sheriff's Office says one of its volunteers was shot Thursday night near Ash Fork, reports abc15.com.
According to YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn, the suspect surrendered to deputies around midnight. He was taken into custody without incident and additional residents at the home were being interviewed.
The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. D'Evelyn said the volunteer was tracking a speeding ATV he had seen earlier and stopped at the gate of a home where it appeared the ATV had entered.
The volunteer got out of his marked patrol vehicle, and as he opened the door, papers flew out of the car, D'Evelyn said. A bullet then struck the volunteer in the hip area, as he was picking up the papers.
The volunteer sought cover as more shots were fired from a nearby home, and additional rounds hit his vehicle, according to D'Evelyn. He was reportedly able to get into his vehicle and drive away as he asked for assistance. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
According to the Daily Courier, the man suspected of shooting the sheriff's volunteer has been identified as Jason Niedermeyer, 24. He admitted to the shooting, D'Evelyn said.
