A South Jordan, Utah, police officer was shot early Thursday during a multi-law enforcement agency raid on the residence of a South Salt Lake man wanted for parole violation.
South Salt Lake police Sgt. Gary Keller said the male officer, whose name was not immediately released, was in serious but stable condition at an area hospital following the incident near 3100 South and 300 East. The officer was undergoing surgery Thursday morning.
The officer was part of a U.S. Marshals-led Joint Criminal Apprehension Team serving an arrest warrant on an apartment just before 1 a.m. Keller said the subject of the warrant, identified as Troy Cabibi, 29, was wanted for a parole violation.
“JCAT had confirmed the arrest subject was in the apartment, announced themselves, and as they made entry they were fired on. That’s when the (South Jordan) officer was shot in the leg,” Keller said. “The team continued inside with no shots fired in return by JCAT, and took two males and a female with a baby into custody.”
