The University of California, Davis hired former LAPD Chief William Bratton over faculty objections to head up the investigation into the pepper-spraying of student demonstrators, reports the Los Angeles Times .

Faculty members objected to the hiring of Bratton, who is now chairman of New York-based Kroll security consulting. One professor said the school should enlist in-house faculty members to lead the probe rather than relying on "a former cop who is charging a lot of money we don't have to spend."
