A Seminole, TX, police officer was struck by gunfire but moved to cover and returned fire during a traffic stop Saturday. The officer was treated and released at an area hospital.
According to the Seminole Police Department , an officer made a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled into a church parking lot. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver started firing a handgun at the officer.
After being struck, the officer moved to cover, and the suspect jumped a fence and dropped the handgun. He was soon located and taken into custody.
Police arrested and charged Ramon Castillo-Lopez, 27, with attempted capital murder-felony 1st degree, evading, and a warrant for possession of controlled substance from another agency.
The police department reports Castillo-Lopez is a Mexican national who was illegally in the country and had been deported before. Police say additional charges may follow and the Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
