A kidnapped couple and carjacked man have locked horns to claim the $1.2 million reward offered in the Chris Dorner case, each saying they have a more righteous claim to the funds.

An attorney for Karen and Kim Reynolds say authorities were already in hot pursuit of the fugitive ex-LAPD cop when Rick Heltebrake called a deputy to report he had been carjacked. The Reynolds' called authorities after Dorner held them hostage in their Big Bear cabin on Feb. 12, reports the Los Angeles Times .

An LAPD spokesman told the Associated Press the money would likely be handed out in April.
