Floyd County Deputy Sheriff William Petry as well as Captain Ralph Frasure of the Pretonsburg Police were killed in the same incident. Four other people were wounded or injured including three law enforcement officers.
The incident began with Floyd County deputies attempting to serve a domestic violence order.
Sheriff Hunt said the suspect, identified by authorities as Lance Storz, opened fire on the deputies. The ensuing standoff lasted several hours with numerous shots fired by the suspect, police say.
“They encountered pure hell when they arrived, they had no chance,” Hunt said. “This guy had a plan, and he pretty much executed that plan almost to precision.”
Arrest records show that Storz, 49, was charged with two counts of murder of a police officer, five counts of attempted murder of a police officer, and assault on a service animal—a Floyd Couty SO K-9 was also shot and killed during the incident. Storz was officially booked at 5 a.m. on Friday,
