Texas Officer Shoots His Own Son, Mistaking Him for Intruder

An off-duty officer with the Dallas Police Department was entering his home when he encountered a man he thought to be an intruder. He opened fire without realizing that the man was his own son.

An off-duty officer with the Dallas Police Department was entering his home when he encountered a man he thought to be an intruder. He opened fire without realizing that the man was his own son.

According to USA Today , the officer found that his garage door was open, and doors that had been unlocked were locked. He decided to check out the home himself before summoning local police with a 911 call.

When the officer encountered the man, he opened fire, striking him in the arm. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.

The identities of the officer and his son have not been released.
