Texas Officer Shoots Gunman at Scene of Vehicle Collision

An officer with the Plano (TX) Police Department shot and wounded a man who was reportedly wielding a rifle at the scene of a vehicle collision on Thursday morning.

According to NBC News , police say the plainclothes officer was driving by the scene of a collision on a freeway when he saw a man at the scene pulling a rifle from the backseat of his car.

The officer stopped his patrol vehicle and confronted the man, identified himself as a police officer and commanded him to stop, police say.

The gunman refused to comply and the officer opened fire, wounding the man, police say.

The wounded suspect was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges against the suspect—whose name has not been released—are pending.
