Texas Deputy Fatally Shot While Serving Warrant

A Midland County (Texas) Sheriff's deputy suffered a fatal gunshot wound Thursday while serving a warrant at a suspected child predator's home in northwest Midland, reports the Midland Reporter-Telegram .

Sheriff's deputies — including slain Sgt. Mike Naylor — arrived in the 3800 block of North County Road 1247 just before 2 p.m. to serve a warrant to alleged sex offender Dan William Higgins, 37, who is accused of shooting Naylor in the head while being served.

Higgins then barricaded himself in his home for more than three hours. He surrendered without incident.

Naylor was airlifted to Midland Memorial Hospital but died that afternoon.
