Texas Agency Shortens Officers' Workweek to Attract New Recruits

Officers with the Killeen (TX) Police Department will soon go from working four 10-hour shifts per week to three 12-hour shifts, according to KWTX .

Killeen Police Chief Charles Kimble believes that the change in shift structure will attract more potential recruits as the agency struggles to find qualified—and interested—candidates.

"You'll be working a longer day, but have more time off,” he said. "You never work longer than four days straight, and you have every other weekend off which is really appealing to Millennials which we recruit."

The new schedule is expected to start April 1.
