Terminated Ohio Officer Returning to Duty, Collecting Back Pay

An officer with the Mansfield (OH) Police Department who was terminated in May of last year has been reinstated and will soon return to duty.

According to the Mansfield News Journal , Law Director John Spon said Officer Freeman Nixon was terminated from his employment with the Mansfield Police Department for violations of departmental regulations, violation of the policies of the department and violation of the code of ethics.

"The arbitrator reversed Nixon’s termination but upheld the city’s discipline of 'conduct unbecoming of an officer' and issued a three-day suspension without pay," Mansfield Chief of Police Keith Porch said. He said Nixon shared information found in another officer's personnel file.

The city is currently working with Nixon through union counsel with Fraternal Order of Police #32 to determine a date for his return to work.
