Young women from Girl Scout Troop 1785 in Nolensville, TN labored for a year in an effort to give that city's police headquarters building a much needed makeover.

According to NolensvillHomepage.com, the girls needed to complete a community project in order to achieve their Silver Award—the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn.

Troop leader and mom to one of the Scouts, Jennifer Bounds, approached Nolensville Police Chief Roddy Parker to find out if there was a problem the troop could address. She looked around and discovered that the offices were filled with old and dilapidated furniture salvaged from a local school that was discarding it, and walls dingy with years of wear.

By the time the project was completed, every wall in the building had a fresh coat of paint and was adorned with artwork submitted by youngsters as part of an art contest held in conjunction with the project.

At an event to "reveal" the big changes, a host of local businesses donated food and beverages, all organized by the Girl Scout Troop.

Before and after pictures on display showed just how dramatic the improvements were.

"The makeover has allowed the NPD staff to have a useful workspace that is clean, pleasant, and professional," Chief Parker said. "We are now proud to have visitors in our office space."
