Tennessee Cop's Suspected Killer Identified

Jesse Mathews, who is wanted in Colorado on robbery warrants, is suspected of fatally shooting Sgt. Timothy Chapin and wounding Officer Lorin Johnston during a pursuit after an armed robbery at the U.S. Money Shops on Saturday.

The parolee and fugitive suspected of fatally shooting a Chattanooga (Tenn.) Police officer has been identified by the agency.

Jesse Mathews, who is wanted in Colorado on robbery warrants, is suspected of fatally shooting Sgt. Timothy Chapin , a 26-year veteran, and wounding Officer Lorin Johnston during a pursuit after an armed robbery at the U.S. Money Shops on Saturday, reports the Times Free Press .

A report in the Colorado Springs Gazette provides additional details about the 25-year-old Mathews. Colorado Springs police had been looking for Mathews since mid-February after he went missing from an El Paso County community corrections facility.

In 2003, Mathews was sentenced to 20 years in prison following a conviction for at least 10 armed robberies in Colorado Springs in 2002 that included a fast-food restaurant, a Walgreens and a pawn shop.
