San Diego officers closed in on Philip Martin Hernandez, 40, in the Barrio Logan neighborhood.
Hernandez, a former firefighter, is suspected of commiting a series of stickups while wearing a jacket emblazoned with the word "POLICE." On Monday, he shot an off-duty San Diego officer who was withdrawing money from an ATM in Escondido. The officer is expected to recover.
Hernandez was facing felony charges of sex with a minor, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune .
