Student Opens Fire at Calif. High School

A student opened fire with a shotgun Thursday morning at a rural California high school, injuring two before he was taken into custody.

One person received minor injuries and refused medical attention while the other, a student, was airlifted to a local hospital, reports NBCLosAngeles.com.

The alleged shooter, also a student, has been taken into custody by the Kern County Sheriff's Office, and is believed to be a student, reports the Associated Press .

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at Taft Union High School, and the suspect was in custody by 9:20 a.m., reports KQED News . Local Sheriffs deputies are going room-by-room to secure the school.

Students were evacuated to the football field. A shotgun was recovered from the scene.
