Spate of Murders Has Minneapolis Police Asking for Help from Other Agencies

After three killings and seven other nonfatal shootings across the city in recent days, Minneapolis police are overwhelmed and have asked for help from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The agencies will help both with patrolling the city and investigating the recent spate of violence, the Star-Tribune reports.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara pleaded for the city to hire more officers, KSTP reports.

“This again just highlights the seriousness around the problem that we have with staffing in the city,” O’Hara said in a news conference. “And when we have a number of murders that happen in a close period of time, we have a number of serious crimes happen, I’m thankful that we have law enforcement partners to call upon to help us.”
