Officer Samuel Riveros and Officer Anthony Pimentel responded to a call for help and came under fire. Riveros was killed and Pimentel was wounded.
The wounded officer was treated at a local hospital and has been released.
“Multiple public safety agencies, including SWAT personnel, responded to the scene. The suspect was also wounded and has been taken into custody,” Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert Lopez said in a Facebook statement.
Officer Riveros joined the Baldwin Park PD in 2016. He was selected for the SWAT Team in 2019 and was appointed as a Field Training Officer in 2024.
Investigation of the incident is being led by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
