Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship of the Mount Pleasant (South Carolina) Police Department was seriously injured Friday when he was struck by a vehicle.

According to a spokesperson for the Mount Pleasant Police Department , Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship was involved in the pursuit after officers from the department attempted a traffic stop, WLTX reports.
Blankenship sustained several internal injuries and is expected to undergo several medical procedures and surgeries. Blankenship’s mother reported he was in a medically induced coma as of Dec. 10, according to an update posted to Facebook, the Post and Courier reports.
The Police Department started a fundraiser on Dec. 10 via Serve and Connect, a nonprofit platform that hosts fundraisers for injured and fallen police officers and their families in South Carolina. The fundraiser surpassed its initial goal of $15,000 in less than 24 hours. All of the proceeds will go to Blankenship and his family.
