The Mount Pleasant (South Carolina) Police Department is asking the community for its thoughts and prayers after an officer was struck by a vehicle during a foot pursuit Friday night.

Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship sustained several internal injuries and is expected to undergo several medical procedures and surgeries.

Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship of the Mount Pleasant (South Carolina) Police Department was seriously injured Friday when he was struck by a vehicle.

According to a spokesperson for the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship was involved in the pursuit after officers from the department attempted a traffic stop, WLTX reports.
Blankenship sustained several internal injuries and is expected to undergo several medical procedures and surgeries. Blankenship’s mother reported he was in a medically induced coma as of Dec. 10, according to an update posted to Facebook, the Post and Courier reports.
The Police Department started a fundraiser on Dec. 10 via Serve and Connect, a nonprofit platform that hosts fundraisers for injured and fallen police officers and their families in South Carolina. The fundraiser surpassed its initial goal of $15,000 in less than 24 hours. All of the proceeds will go to Blankenship and his family.
