The Philadelphia Police officer who was shot after pursuing a suspect into a corner store has undergone a second surgery and may lose his kidney as a result of the shooting, reports ABC News.
Officer Edward Davies, 41, remains in critical condition Wednesday after his confrontation with Eric Torres, 31, a day earlier. Davies attempted to pull over Torres' 1998 BMW for a broken taillight, but Torres sped off. Torres struck the wall of a recycling plant and then ran into a mini-mart in Feltonville. Armed with a stolen .45-caliber pistol, he shot Davies in the abdomen below his ballistic vest during a struggle, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Torres was transferred from Einstein Medical Center to police headquarters Wednesday for booking and questioning. He has been arrested 12 times before, including two separate incidents when he assaulted officers.
Davies' wife and four children, as well as his fellow officers, have been keeping a vigil for him at Temple University Hospital.
