Second NYPD Officer Dies from Shooting

NYPD officer Wilbert Mora, who was shot and his partner killed while responding to a domestic call in Harlem, has died from his injuries, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell told ABC7NY Tuesday.

"It's with great sadness I announce the passing of Police Officer Wilbert Mora," Sewell said in a tweet. "Wilbert is 3 times a hero. For choosing a life of service. For sacrificing his life to protect others. For giving life even in death through organ donation. Our heads are bowed and our hearts are heavy."

Mora, 27, and Officer Jason Rivera, 22, were shot during the incident and Rivera died Friday night.

Rivera, Mora and another uniformed officer responded to a domestic disturbance call by a mother who said she was fighting with her son, according to police. She did not mention any injuries, or any weapons, on the call. After officers arrived, they went to a rear bedroom, where Lashawn McNeil fired multiple times as they approached the door. He then tried to run from the apartment, but was confronted by a third officer, who shot him twice.

McNeil died Monday reported NBC4NewYork .

Police told CBS New York McNeil had been arrested five times before the deadly encounter and was on probation after being convicted of a felony drug charge in New York City in 2003. He was arrested four times outside the city on various charges, including assault on an officer and weapon possession.
