Seattle Officer In Halloween Ambush Receives Medal of Valor

Seattle Police Officer Britt Sweeney has received a Medal of Valor for her actions during the Halloween 2009 ambush in which her field training officer was gunned down.

Earlier in the week, the International Association of Women Police bestowed the honor on Sweeney, reports KOMO News.

A year ago, Sweeney and Officer Timothy Brenton, 39, were riding in a patrol car when a man pulled up next to them an opened fire. Brenton was killed instantly, and Sweeney was grazed by several bullets but able to return fire.

King County Presecutor Dan Satterberg has said he will seek the death penalty against accused cop killer Christopher Monfort.
