SC Officer Shot, Suspect Dead After Pursuit
The 27-year-old man who was suspected of shooting a McBee, South Carolina, police officer Thursday night is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Horry County after a pursuit. The officer is expected to recover.
A McBee, South Carolina, police officer is recovering from being shot while responding to a call late Thursday. Police say the suspect died following a Friday-morning police pursuit and standoff.
The officer was wounded while responding to an incident Thursday night, and McBee Police Chief Tim Knight told ABC15 that the gunman fired more than 60 times at the officer.
According to the McBee mayor, the officer was struck three times and will have to have some surgery on his forearm, but is home resting and recovering.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) issued a “blue alert” for the suspected gunman’s vehicle following the shooting, and Friday morning the pickup truck was seen driving near Florence around 6 a.m. Friday, News13 reported. SLED reported the suspect, 27-year-old Alston Modlin, was armed and dangerous.
A police pursuit of the suspect ended in Lee County and transitioned into a standoff with authorities.
At about 1:45 p.m. Friday, the Horry County Police Department sent a news release that said it was investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lee County and that Modlin was dead, reported WYFF4.
