A SC deputy sheriff is reported to be in serious condition after being shot Sunday while trying to extinguish a fire at a domestic disturbance call.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call around 8 a.m. and the first deputy to arrive saw the garage was on fire. He was attempting to put the fire out when Leroy Quick, Jr., opened fire on him.
The deputy returned fire and additional deputies found Quick unresponsive in the back yard. He was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound later in the morning at an area hospital.

The sheriff asked South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to investigate both the officer-involved shooting and the arson.
