The San Francisco Police Department will begin using civilian investigators to collect fingerprint and DNA evidence at non-violent crime scenes such as burglaries and vehicle break-ins, SF Gate.com reports.
The move is considered controversial by some, yet will free up officers to respond to crimes in progress or dangerous offenders, according to Chief George Gascon.
