The Safariland Training Group is now offering the Female Officer Survival Training Tactics course, which will be overseen by a 31-year veteran officer of the Fort Worth Police Department, the company announced.

This four-day course, which was developed by female LEOs, provides female officers the skills to confidently engage and thwart lethal, threatening situations. Highlights of the course include improved firearms accuracy, advanced gunfighting skills, defensive tactics specific to the female officer, and improving tactical decision-making skills through scenario-based training.

This program provides an opportunity for female officers to train in a comfortable learning environment at the range, in the gym and in the classroom. The course will provide each student with a personalized assessment of her particular skill sets and identify any areas to focus for development, according to Safariland.

"Female officers put their lives on the line every day, just like male police officers, yet they have to overcome some inherent challenges," said Sandy Wall, Safariland's director of training. "Our talented Safariland Training Group female instructors have experienced these challenges first hand in their careers and have built this course to offer their fellow officers options and tactics to help survive the street."

Safariland Training Group's chief instructor for the course is Dorcia Meadorof the Fort Worth PD, who is considered one of the best female shooters in the country. She is a four-time women's NRA champion and holds numerous national records in police pistol combat competitions, 1500 PPC revolver, and Police Pistol Combat semi-auto.

Joining Meador is Lt. Amy Forster of the Vancouver Police Department, who is a recognized expert in ground and hand-to-hand fighting, and Belinda Selvey of the Fort Worth PD, who is an accomplished tactical instructor.

Classes are currently scheduled for May 24-27 in San Marco, Texas (northeast of San Antonio), and June 28-July 1 in Chicago, Ill. Agencies interested in hosting training, should contact the Safariland Training Group at 800-733-3832, ext. 11766.
