Raleigh Officers Fatally Shoot Man Throwing Fire Bombs

Raleigh police officers shot and killed a man who was throwing Molotov cocktails outside a Raleigh police station Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Raleigh Police Chief Estella D. Patterson said at a press conference that the suspect started throwing the fire bombs near the officers and toward at least one.

The incident began around 1:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the agency's southeast district office when an officer saw a man setting vehicles on fire using Molotov cocktails, the chief said.

The officer then summoned other officers who arrived in the parking lot, Patterson said. Police told the man to stop throwing the incendiary weapons, Patterson said.

However, the man continued to throw Molotov cocktails in the parking lot and two Raleigh police cruisers were engulfed in flames, CBS17 reports.

All four officers involved in the incident fired their weapons. The suspect was hit multiple times.

He was transported to a hospital where he died.
