Two billboards on I-40 in Memphis have been vandalized with "defund the police" messages from a radical anti-police group.
Monday night, an anti-police group called Indecline, who labels themselves a guerrilla activist art collective, altered two Geico ads on the Interstate.
Indecline previously altered a billboard in Mississippi to show support for George Floyd. The billboard included an inflammatory message about police officers who kill in the line of duty, Fox 13 reports.
The billboards caught the attention of the Memphis Police Association.
MPA Steward and MPD Officer John Covington responded to the act by saying, “They’re entitled to that opinion, but that’s not where we are realistically as far as the crime that we’re fighting here in Memphis and, obviously, police are a big part that fight.”
Indecline says it believes the reduction of the role that police play in our daily lives would benefit their safety as officers as much as ours as citizens, WREG reports.
Memphis police officer Darrell Adams was killed Saturday while working a crash scene on I-40. He was struck by a tractor-trailer.
