Police and other first responders can suffer trauma as a result of their work, and across the country, many police unions are calling for workers' compensation for officers to cover PTSD.
Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson told a South Jersey Times reporter, "We need to extend far beyond than just when an officer discharges their firearm," he said. "The chronic exposure to traumatic events, such as grisly homicides or heinous crimes against children takes its toll on even the most seasoned officers."
