Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty for Man Accused of Killing Arizona Officer
Prosecutors filed their intent to seek the death penalty in the case of a man accused of killing a Nogales (AZ) Police Department officer last April.
Prosecutors filed their intent to seek the death penalty in the case of a man accused of killing a Nogales (AZ) Police Department officer last April.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, 28-year-old David Ernesto Murillo faces 39 felony counts, ranging from murder to impersonating a peace officer.
Murillo had reportedly carjacked a vehicle and fled deputies into Nogales, where he attempted to carjack another vehicle. Officers responded, locating the subject. A gunfight ensued, in which Officer Jesus Cordova was struck multiple times by gunfire.
Officer Cordova was flown to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Cordova is survived by three children and his expectant fiancée.
