The suspect charged with killing a well-respected Virginia State Police trooper would face the death penalty if convicted of the crime, a Dinwiddie County prosecutor said Friday, reports the Washington Post .

Russell Ervin Brown, 28, has been charged with capital muder, two felony firearms counts, and attempted captial murder for exchanging gunfire with a trooper who came to the aide of Master Trooper Junius Walker .

Walker, a 35-year veteran, was shot and killed Thursday on the side of Interstate 85. A memorial service for Walker is scheduled for Tuesday, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch .
