Prosecutor: Mich. Cops Spent Forfeiture Funds on Alcohol, Prostitutes

The former Romulus (Mich.) Police chief and five officers face corruption charges stemming from a three-year state probe apparently revealing that they spent $40,000 in drug forfeiture funds on alcohol, prostitutes, and marijuana.

Former Chief Michael St. Andre; his wife, Sandra St. Andre; Detective Sgt. Richard Balzer; Detective Richard Landry and Detective Donald Hopkins face felony racketeering charges that carry a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison, reports the Detroit Free Press.

Detective Jeremy Channells and Detective Larry Droege face felony charges that carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors also said St. Andre used $75,000 of drug forfeiture funds to buy a tanning salon in Westland for his wife.
