Detroit's police union is asking the city to change its policy on payment of funeral expenses for officers killed in the line of duty.

The issue came to the forefront this week as a GoFundMe page was established to pay for the funeral of Officer Glenn Anthony Doss. Officer Doss was mortally wounded in a shooting last Wednesday and died Sunday. The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $40,000.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig says the policy on who pays for funerals of slain officers has never been an issue, and that there are organizations available to pay for the funerals along with insurance money that some families opt to use.
7 Action News reports that police departments in cities like Chicago and Philadelphia do pay for the funerals. Chief Craig says he's worked in cities where they do and some where they don't.
