Philadelphia Officer Killed, Another Wounded
One Philadelphia, PA, police officer was killed Thursday night and another one wounded after they encountered a group of individuals police said were attempting to break into a vehicle at a parking garage at the Philadelphia International Airport.
One Philadelphia, PA, police officer was killed Thursday night and another one wounded after they encountered a group of individuals police said were attempting to break into a vehicle at a parking garage at the Philadelphia International Airport.
The officers, reported to have been arriving for work at the airport, approached those individuals, who proceeded to open fire. One of the officers was shot multiple times in the torso and the other was shot in the arm, reported FOX29 .
Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford briefed the media outside an area hospital following the shooting and provided more details of the shooting, which happened a little after 11 p.m.
" One officer gave his life tonight and one is recovering. Please wrap your arms and prayers around their families and our department. We will continue our search for those responsible and won't stop until all are in custody," Stanford said.
The officer who was killed was a 22-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department. After being wounded, he was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m. The second officer was taken to another area hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
