The suspect accused of killing five adults and wounding two children Monday during an active shooter attack on the streets of Philadelphia has told police he did it to help address gun violence, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The assertions by Kimbrady Carriker were made to police in the hours after Carriker was arrested while wearing body armor and a ski mask and carrying an AR-variant rifle and a handgun, sources told the paper.
Carriker first told officers who made the arrest that they had done a good job, the sources said. Carriker then told them the attack was an attempt to help police because “all these guys are out there killing people,” the sources said.
Carriker later told detectives that Yahweh, a Hebrew name for God, would be sending more people to help, the sources said. He then declined to provide further information to investigators.
Carriker is being held without bail
As an officer took him into custody in an alley near the site of the attack, the suspect reportedly said he was waiting for officers to arrest him. The paper reports he was lying on the ground and offered no resistance even though his pistol and rifle were by his side.
