The Salem (Ore.) Police Department placed a recruit on administrative leave two weeks after he began patrol duties, after he shot a fleeing suspect in the leg, OregonLive.com reports.
The incident began at 2:45 am today when Officer Vince Dawson and his field training officer, Corporal Justin Carney, stopped a vehicle involved in an open robbery investigation. All but one of the car's occupants fled, prompting the officers to pursue them separately on foot.
