Oregon Police Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Man Holding Woman Hostage

Portland (OR) police fatally shot a man—reportedly armed with a knife—holding a woman hostage at the Del Rancho Motel in Southeast Portland, according to OregonLive.com .

Officers responded to reports of two people fighting near the motel, Portland Police spokesman Chris Burley said during a news briefing.

Officers learned that one of the subjects was armed with a knife and had attempted to stab another individual. They then learned that the knife-wielding subject was holding a woman hostage in one of the hotel rooms.

SWAT and hostage negotiators were called, but before they could deploy, an officer reportedly shot and killed the suspect.
