Oregon Officer Wounded, Suspect Killed in Gunfight

An officer with the Salem (OR) Police Department was wounded and a gunman was killed in an armed confrontation early Thursday morning.

According to CBS News , police say a suspect who ran from the scene of a car crash opened fire on the responding officer who returned fire, fatally striking the suspect.

The officer was treated by responding paramedics and subsequently released to recover from his wounds at his home.

The names of the officer nor the gunman have yet been released and an investigation remains ongoing.
