On-Duty NYPD Cop Kills Self on City Street

An on-duty NYPD officer distraught over a possible breakup with his girlfriend shot himself in the head outside the Manhattan apartment where the couple lived.

Officer Philip Chlanda apparently was concerned he would lose his girlfriend, after he looked on her Facebook page to see if she was seeing anyone else.

Officer Chlanda told his 29-year-old girlfriend, "I love you," and then pulled out his 9mm service weapon and shot himself after a 3:20 a.m. argument.
