Ohio Village Lays Off Entire Police Force

The village of Lynchburg, OH, laid off its entire police force Friday, and will now be patrolled by the Highland County Sheriff's Office, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer .

According to a post on the Lynchburg Police Department's Facebook page, all police officers and commanders lost their jobs as of 4 p.m. Friday.

In the absence of its now-former, part-time police force, Lynchburg will be patrolled by the Highland County Sheriff's Office, said Sheriff Donnie Barrera.

Barrera said he found out about the layoffs around 5 p.m. Friday from the outgoing village police chief, adding he hadn't been contacted by any other village officials as of 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The village, about 50 miles northeast of Cincinnati in Clinton and Highland counties, is home to about 1,500 residents.
