Ohio Court Rules Officer's Estimate Good Enough for Speeding Conviction

The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that a trained officer's "visual estimation" of a vehicle traveling over the posted limit is sufficient for a conviction, CNN reports.

The ruling was the second in a week—along with the U.S. Supreme Court's loosening of Miranda requirements—to favor law enforcement.

The case involved Mark Jenney and Officer Christopher Santimarino of the Copley PD. Santimarino cited Jenney for driving 79 mph in a 60 mph. A radar reading of 82 mph was tossed by the judge after Santimarino could not produce a copy of his radar-training certificate.

Local police said they would continue to use radar for traffic enforcement.
