An officer with the Port of Seattle Police Department is now on administrative leave after posting a video on social media voicing disagreement with the enforcement of the state’s stay-at-home order.
According to NBC News, Officer Greg Anderson posted the video—filmed from his squad car and in full uniform—on his Instagram account in early May. The video quickly went viral and has garnered more than 800,000 views.
In the video, Anderson says, "I’m seeing people arrested or cited for going to church, for traveling on the roadways, for going surfing, opening their businesses. I want to remind you that regardless of where you stand on the coronavirus, we don’t have the authority to do those things to people just because a mayor or a governor tells you otherwise."
Port of Seattle Police Chief Rod Covey later contacted Anderson and demanded that he take the video down from social media. Anderson refused, and was then placed on administrative leave pending possible termination.
Anderson has since posted another video to social media saying that he has no regrets, and anticipates his eventual termination from the agency.
