The police officer who was almost killed confronting a school shooter in Santa Fe, TX, on May 18 is no longer in critical condition, according to University of Texas Hospital in Galveston.
John Barnes, 49, was among the officers who responded to the shooting, in which a gunman killed 10 people and injured 13 others. Barnes, a retired Houston police officer who joined the tiny Santa Fe ISD police department in January, was hit by a shotgun blast in the elbow.
