Off-Duty Deputy Shoots, Kills Knife-Wielding Brother at Family Gathering

An off-duty sheriff's deputy was forced to shoot and kill his own brother when the knife-wielding man attacked several family members, police say.

According to KTLA-TV , after 29-year-old Israel Miranda assaulted relatives with a knife 26-year-old Humberto Miranda—an off-duty sheriff's deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department—shot and killed him.

The assailant was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that the assailant was on active parole and had a history of violence.
