Obama Blasts Arizona Immigration Law As 'Ill Conceived'

President Obama blamed Republicans for stalling immigration reform, and said states such as Arizona who pass their own laws to address the issue are taking an "ill-conceived" step.

Obama made the remarks today at a speech at American University in D.C.

During the speech, Obama said immigration reform is a federal responsibility and should be passed with bi-partisan support, according to the CBS report.

In April, an Arizona law went into effect that requires police officers to check the immigration status of subjects they stop. The law has drawn fire from several high-profile police chiefs , and support from patrol officers and deputies .
