Oakland voters will consider a ballot measure in November that, if passed, would fund police and fire services for four years and halt officer layoffs, SF Gate.com reports.
The measure would impose a $360-a-year parcel tax. If passed, the City Council has promised to lay off no officers for three years. Members of Oakland's police union have also agreed to pay more toward pensions.
The measure is gaining steam, following the homicide of 13-year-old Jimon Clark, a stand-out athlete who was shot to death as he walked with his brother in an East Oakland neighborhood. The shooter took $2 from Clark's pocket, after shooting him.
